Description
Jacobs Leys is a farmhouse that likely dates from the late 17th century to the early 18th century, with some alterations made in the early 19th century. The building features a timber frame that is mainly clad in brick, with dentilled eaves cornices and end stacks on both the east and west sides. It has an L-shaped plan, with the main front facing south and a full-height return wing at the rear of the east end. The farmhouse is two storeys tall and includes cellars and attics.
On the south elevation, there are three windows with glazing bar sashes. The ground floor has two canted early 19th-century bay windows, featuring 20-pane sashes on the fronts and 15-pane sashes on the angles. In the center, there is a six-panelled early 19th-century door, with the top two panels glazed, sheltered by a flat canopy supported by two wooden columns with abaci. The roof is hipped to the right, and there are end stacks.
The east return elevation, which faces the road, has two segmentally-headed three-light early 19th-century casements, one on each floor to the left, and two blind equivalents to their right. The north gable of the east wing displays exposed timber-framing, consisting of six panels high; the top three panels are single pegged, suggesting they were added later than the bottom three panels, which are double pegged. Attached to the north side is a single-storey early 19th-century addition, which also features a dentilled brick eaves cornice, a segmentally-headed brick wagon arch, a door, and a four-light casement on the rear elevation, but it has no windows facing the road.
