Description
Moorend Farmhouse is a farmhouse that dates from the 17th century, with alterations and extensions made in the late 18th or early 19th century and the 20th century. It features a timber frame with a sandstone plinth, painted brick infill, brick refacing, and later additions, along with some roughcast render. The building has part hipped roofs and is arranged in an irregular L-plan. The main range was rebuilt in the 18th century and runs east to west, with a cross-wing at the west end and a further extension to the north at the east end, which includes another cross-wing aligned east to west. The entrance is located in the angle of the wings, and there are central axial stacks.
The farmhouse is two storeys high, with attics and cellars, and has irregular fenestration. The gable end of the cross-wing to the right features 2-light casement windows. The main range has a similar window and a 4-pane window to the left, along with three 20th-century windows in a section that extends to the north at a right angle, which also includes three windows to the left of a ledged door. There is a single storey and attic in the second cross-wing to the left, which has a 4-light window to the right of another ledged door. The framing is exposed in the cross-wings to the north and west, showing three square panels from the sill to the wall-plate with V-struts in the gable of the north cross-wing, and six square panels from the sill to the wall-plate in the west cross-wing, featuring diagonal bracing from the sill to the main post.
