Description

Clematis Cottage and Heywood Thatches are two adjoining houses, with Clematis Cottage on the west and Heywood Thatches on the east. They likely date from the 17th century and have been altered in the 20th century. The buildings feature a timber frame with rendered infill, a sandstone plinth and stacks, and some brick additions from the 20th century. They have a thatched roof.

Clematis Cottage has three framed bays aligned east to west, which adjoin a further three framed bays of Heywood Thatches to the east. The north side faces the road, with 20th-century additions to the south and east. The cottages have gable entries, a large axial stack and a gable end stack to the west, while the north lateral stack is now capped.

Both houses are single storey with an attic. The north front includes two eyebrow dormer windows with 2-light casement windows, and there are two small 4-paned windows to the right of the right dormer on Clematis Cottage, as well as two windows to the left of the left dormer on Heywood Thatches. There are 20th-century doors at the gable entrances, and a porch is present on Heywood Thatches. The framing is irregular and altered, with square panels generally consisting of three panels from the sill to the wall-plate.
