Description

Church Lane Cottage is a house dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the 20th century. It is timber-framed with painted brick infill, a sandstone plinth, and an external stack. The roof is slate. The building has three framed bays facing north, with a central entrance and an external stack on the east gable end. There are 20th-century lean-to additions to the east of the north front and to the west gable end. The cottage is single-storey with an attic, featuring two 20th-century gabled dormers. The north-facing entrance front is partially obscured by 20th-century additions; two 20th-century windows flank a 20th-century glazed door, with a further single casement window in the west addition. The timber framing is partly revealed to the west of the north addition and at the rear (south), and is largely complete, consisting of three square panels from sill to wall-plate. The building was formerly recorded as a cottage and barn in a single range by the Royal Commission.
