Description
The Ashperton War Memorial is a granite structure erected around 1920, located on the village green. It features a three-stepped, octagonal base topped with an octagonal Latin cross that has broach stops at the base of the shaft, with the arms of the cross slightly splayed.
On the south-west face of the top two steps, the inscription reads "THE GREAT WAR / 1914–1919." The top step of the other three sides is inscribed with the names of the parishes: ASHPERTON, CANON-FFROME, or STRETTON-GRANDISON AND EGGLETON. Below these names are the names of the men from each parish who died during the First World War.
Additionally, a stone plaque has been added to the bottom step of these three sides, which includes the dates "1939-45" and the names of the men from each parish who died during the Second World War.
