Description
This is an early 19th-century house with a surrounding flank wall, gate piers and gates to the north-west. The house is constructed of red sandstone ashlar with slate roofs and stone stacks, including a cupola over the stairwell. The front elevation is two storeys high, with five bays across the front and three bays along the side. It features glazing bar sash windows, a central canted bay with a segmentally-headed sash window above the porch, and a porch with an entablature and two Tuscan columns in antis. A glazing-bar French casement with a fanlight is also present. The rear elevation is three storeys high and features a pair of cast iron, fluted columns leading to the entrance. The house includes a cantilevered early 19th-century staircase located at the rear of the entrance hall.
A flank wall runs approximately 60 feet from the north end of the house. The gate piers are square and made of ashlar, with moulded cornices and pyramidal cappings. The gates, which were stored behind the piers during a 1985 survey, have spear-headed dogbars and fleur-de-lys finials.
