Description
The Church of St Bartholomew is a parish church dating from the 12th century, with restoration work completed in 1863. It is constructed from coursed and dressed sandstone rubble, featuring ashlar dressings, with stone slates on the chancel and slates on the nave. The church has a nave with a bellcote and a south porch, along with a chancel. The nave consists of three bays and has buttressing at the west end, with two restored late 14th century two-light windows that have trefoil-headed lights located to the right of the mid-19th century gabled south porch. The north wall retains a single semi-circular headed light, and there is a mid-19th century bellcote. The chancel has two bays, with a single lancet window to the right and a single ogee-headed light to the left of the restored doorway. The east end of the chancel retains a single semi-circular headed light, and a similar window is also preserved in the north wall, with herringbone masonry above the east window. Inside, there is a semi-circular headed chancel arch with a single unmoulded order, square responds, and moulded imposts. Notable fittings include a 15th century font, which has an octagonal bowl on a similar stem and base.
