Description
Mains of Rochelhill is a farmhouse dated 1710, with an extension to the east added in the late 18th to early 19th century and further alterations made later. The building is two storeys high and has an L-shaped plan, featuring six bays. The exterior is harled with painted margins on the south and east sides, while the northwest side is made of random rubble. The northeast side showcases squared and snecked rubble with ashlar quoins.
On the south elevation, which is the principal facade, there are three symmetrical bays to the right of the center. This section includes a small porch with flanking windows at ground level and regular window placement near the eaves on the first floor. To the left, there is a slightly lower bay with a window in the center, a door to the right, and a garage door to the left, which is beneath a dated lintel inscribed with the initials ?TO IB?. A small traditional rooflight is positioned in the center.
The northeast elevation features an advanced gable to the left of center, with two windows on the ground floor and another window on the first floor to the right, returning to the right side. There are lower recessed bays to the right of center on the ground floor, where the ground slopes steeply to the east. This side has two timber doors on the left at ground level and a window to the right of center, along with a broad timber door at a higher ground level on the outer right. The first floor has three small windows arranged regularly.
On the west elevation, there is an advanced gable to the left of center with two windows on the ground floor and a small window in the gablehead to the left. A narrow stair window is located on the return to the right, adjacent to the recessed bays that have two windows on each floor, with the right first-floor window being bipartite and breaking into the gablehead.
The west elevation features a blank gable. The windows throughout mainly consist of four-pane and plate glass glazing patterns in timber sash and case styles, with margined stair windows. The original 1710 block is covered with Angus stone slates, while grey slates are used on the extensions. The building has coped ashlar stacks with thackstanes and a shouldered wallhead stack on the north side. The eaves are overhanging with plain bargeboarding.
The property is enclosed by rubble boundary walls.
