Description
The lodge, likely designed around 1882 by Shiells and Thomson, is a single-story building of an L-plan form, constructed in a Baronial style and featuring a modern extension at the rear. It is built of squared and snecked red rubble sandstone with cream ashlar dressings and a base course.
The north elevation showcases a circular entrance tower situated in the re-entrant angle, breaking the eaves. It has a roll-moulded door surround framing a fanlit, boarded door, with a narrow window to the right. A bowed end projects from an advanced left bay, incorporating three windows, with a central window rising through a gabled dormerhead. A similar gabled window is positioned to the outer right.
The east and west sides feature crowstepped gabled bays, battered wallhead stacks, and a window on the east side.
The south elevation has a wide, harled extension that probably incorporates masonry from the original elevation, extending centrally and to the right.
The windows are sash and case, with a six-pane glazing pattern. The roof is slate, with fish-scales covering the conical tower roof, and leaded finials. Stone thistle finials adorn the window pediments, and ashlar coping sits atop the stacks.
The lodge retains group value and is listed at category B, despite the rear extension, due to its connection with Linplum House.
