148 Newhaven Road, Edinburgh

148 Newhaven Road in Edinburgh is a plain classical house built around 1840. It is two stories high and has a symmetrical rectangular plan with three bays. The exterior is made of squared and snecked yellow rubble sandstone, featuring polished surrounds around the openings and droved long and short rubble quoins. The house has projecting polished cills on both floors, while the side and rear elevations are constructed from random rubble.

On the west elevation, which faces the entrance, there is a timber panelled door located in the central bay, topped by a decorative diamond-paned fanlight and a stugged long and short stone surround. The ground floor has single windows flanking the door, and the first floor is regularly fenestrated. All openings are fitted with 12-pane timber sash and case windows. The roof is covered with grey slate in diminishing courses, with stone skews and coped droved sandstone apex stacks that have circular cans.

The interior was not seen in 1996. The property is bordered by a coped rubble wall along Newhaven Road, which has replacement railings, and a tall random rubble wall to the west.
