Description

14-16 Bath Place in Ayr is a classical house built in 1846, featuring two stories and a near rectangular plan with three bays. The exterior is made of coursed, squared sandstone, with rubble on the sides. It has a base course, a cill course at the first floor, an eaves course, a cornice, and a blocking course that includes a raised central panel. The building is accented with wide strip quoins and has labelmoulds over the ground floor windows, while the first floor windows are framed with architraves.

The south elevation, which serves as the entrance, has a central doorpiece that is double-pilastered, corniced, and topped with a block pediment. The timber door features a letterbox fanlight, and there is a single window directly above it on the first floor. The flanking bays have regular fenestration.

The west side elevation is blank, while the east side elevation has the entrance to No 14 located on the outer right at ground level, featuring a timber door and letterbox fanlight, with a single window to the left and another window on the first floor.

The windows throughout the building are timber sash and case, with 4 and 12 panes. The roof is covered with grey slate and features coped wallhead stacks with polygonal cans.

The boundary wall, gatepiers, gates, and railings include a coped wall on the entrance elevation and a higher coped wall at the rear that encloses the site. The entrance to No 14 is on the right and features a two-leaf iron gate, with an iron gatepier to the left and spear-headed railings.
