5 York Road, Edinburgh

5 York Road in Edinburgh is a plain classical house built around 1820. It is a two-storey, three-bay structure with a piend roof, constructed from sandstone ashlar with random rubble on the sides. There is a dividing course between the ground and second floors, and an eaves cornice.

The principal elevation features regular window placement on the first floor. A later addition is a bowed glazed iron porch beneath the stone cornice of the doorpiece, which includes a timber panelled door with a decorative fanlight above. On the ground floor to the right, there is a later canted bay with painted stop-chamfered surrounds on the windows and a panelled blocking course above. A decorative wrought-iron balcony is present on the first floor.

The windows are timber sash and case with a 4-pane glazing pattern. The roof is covered with graded grey slates, and there are stone-coped wallhead stacks with circular cans.

The boundary wall in front is made of stone-coped rubble, and there are painted panelled gatepiers topped with corniced caps.
