Description
The Railway Tunnel on East Trinity Road in Edinburgh was designed by Grainger and Miller around 1840. This impressive tunnel carries the former Edinburgh, Granton and Leith railway line, which is now a cycle track, beneath the back gardens on the west side of York Road and East Trinity Road. The tunnel features a horseshoe-shaped opening, which is flanked by battered pilasters. The entablatures of these pilasters continue as parapets above. The structure is made of rusticated coursed sandstone, with the spandrels treated radially.
