Description

Corbiesteps is a semi-detached house located at 62 East Trinity Road in Edinburgh, built around 1840 with later extensions. This two-storey building features nearly symmetrical design elements and incorporates 17th century Scottish architectural details. The southern facade has paired advanced bays with projecting stone-mullioned windows on the ground floor and crowstepped gables. The east and west sides have projecting wings also topped with crowstepped gables, and there are lean-to entrance porches at the returns. The first floor has hoodmoulded windows. The exterior is constructed from coursed squared sandstone with ashlar dressings.

On the east elevation facing East Trinity Road, there are twin gabled bays. The left bay has a four-light stone-mullioned projecting window, while the right bay features a canted window. Above these are hoodmoulded windows in the gableheads, with crowstepped gables adorned with a thistle finial on the right and a fleur-de-lys on the left. The entrances are located in lean-to porches with bracketed stone skews; the right side has a timber panelled door with leaded glazed panels and a rectangular leaded fanlight in a moulded surround, while the left side has a later wooden small-pane glazed extension with a boarded door featuring decorative hinges.

The west elevation has a modern conservatory attached at the ground floor, with a hoodmoulded window in a ball-finialled crowstepped gable above. The east elevation includes a canted window, likely a later addition, on the ground floor, with a hoodmoulded window in a finialled crowstepped gable above. The north (rear) elevation has a small stone building adjoining the ground floor and dormer windows breaking the eaves above.

The windows throughout the property feature a small-pane glazing pattern in timber sash and case style. The roof is covered with graded grey slates, and the corniced stacks, which have been rebuilt, feature decorative circular cans. A decorative rainwater hopper is located on the downpipe between the gables on the front elevation.

Surrounding the property is a high rubble-coped stone boundary wall, with a garden door leading to No 1 York Road. The entrance to No 62 East Trinity Road is marked by ashlar gatepiers topped with corniced caps.
