Description

St Maries, located at 66 East Trinity Road in Edinburgh, is a classical house built between 1823 and 1824. It is a two-storey, three-bay structure made of coursed sandstone rubble with ashlar dressings, while the rear features random rubble. The house has an eaves cornice and a blocking course that is raised at the center, along with rusticated quoins and architraved windows.

The south (principal) elevation is regularly fenestrated, with the center bay slightly advanced. It features a timber panelled door topped by a rectangular fanlight, set within a painted Ionic columned doorpiece that includes an entablature and blocking course.

On the north (rear) elevation, there is a bowed stair tower with a tall window at the center. Above this, a balcony with decorative cast-iron railings is accessible from a French door located in a slate-hung dormer in the attic. There are also doors on either side at the ground floor.

The windows have a 12-pane glazing pattern and are timber sash and case. The roof is covered with graded grey slates, and there are stone-coped skews and gablehead stacks with circular cans.

The property is enclosed by boundary walls made of stone-coped coursed rubble, which are higher at either side. There is a pedestrian gate to the right and a carriage gate to the left. The cast-iron railings and gate feature spear heads and a Greek key pattern.
