Description
51 Minto Street is a classical house built in 1825, featuring two storeys and a basement with three bays. The front is constructed of cream sandstone ashlar, with a channelled ground floor, while the sides and rear are made of coursed rubble sandstone. The design includes a base course, a dividing band course, a cill course, and architraves around the first-floor windows, topped with a cornice and a blocking course that has a raised centre.
The entrance elevation showcases a central doorway that is cavetto-splayed, featuring a panelled door and a plate glass fanlight. This is flanked by Doric columns supporting a corniced doorpiece. Above the entrance, there is a single window on the first floor, with additional windows in the outer bays to the left and right.
The west elevation has a raised basement with a stone porch at the centre and a stair window above, with regular fenestration on either side. The northwest quoin is chamfered at the ground level and transitions to a square shape above.
The house has plate glass timber sash and case windows and a grey slate piended roof, which includes tall, shouldered, rendered, and coped wallhead stacks with moulded cans.
Inside, there is a glazed vestibule, a winding stair, panelled doors, and decorative plaster cornices. A fine white marble chimneypiece is located in the first-floor bedroom at the front.
The property is bordered by a low coped boundary wall along the street, with a pedestrian gate next to the house on the south side. There is also a stone wall enclosing the garden at the rear.
