Description
16 Queen's Terrace in Ayr is a later 19th-century terrace consisting of two-storey and attic houses arranged in an 11-bay layout, with No 12 featuring an additional bay. The exterior is made of painted coursed rubble, with painted render on No 8. It has a base course, cornice, and blocking course, along with painted margins around the openings.
The west elevation features paired houses on the outer left and right. The central entrance has two-leaf timber doors with fanlights, and side-lights are present in the inner bays. Above, there are single windows on the first floor, with regular fenestration at both the ground and first floors in the outer canted bays. The central house, No 12, has a flat front with a two-leaf timber door to the left, a letterbox fanlight, and a side-light to the left. Above, there is a single window aligned with the door, and two single windows at both the ground and first floors to the right. The attic features single canted dormers, with two dormers on Nos 8 and 10.
The windows are primarily plate glass and four-pane timber sash and case, although No 8 has modern glazing, and there is stained glass in the sidelight and first-floor window to the outer left of No 12. The roof is covered with grey slate and includes stone skews, rooflights, gablehead and ridge stacks, and circular cans.
The interiors were not seen in 1998.
