Description

The gate-lodge and gate-piers at Dunesk, located on Green Lane in Lasswade, date from the earlier 19th century. The lodge is situated to the southwest of the main house and is a single-storey structure with three bays, featuring a canted front elevation and a long rectangular addition to the rear on the northeast side. It is constructed from stugged and droved sandstone, accented with polished ashlar dressings, and includes raised margins around the windows, an eaves course, and a blocking course above the central entrance bay. The rear addition is harled and also has three bays.

The southwest (entrance) elevation showcases a round-arched doorway flanked by rectangular niches made of ashlar. The timber panelled door, which has been replaced, is topped by a demi-lune fanlight. There is a window in each of the flanking bays.

The roof is covered with grey slate and has a piended design, while the addition also has a slate roof. The apex of the canted block features an ashlar coped stack, with another ashlar stack located mid-way behind it, and a rendered stack on the addition. Some of the guttering is made of cast iron, with some sections having been replaced.

The gatepiers consist of a cluster of polished ashlar sandstone Doric columns that have octagonal bases and cornices, topped with a hexagonal, blind arcaded cap. The entrance is adorned with arrowhead wrought-iron gates and links leading to another pair of square-plan ashlar sandstone piers, which also have square cornices and caps.

The boundary walls are constructed from sandstone rubble and topped with a curved ashlar cope.
