Description
East Lodge at Anton's Hill is an earlier to mid 19th century gate lodge with later additions and alterations. It is a single-storey, three-bay building originally designed in a T-plan, with a flat-roofed addition to the northeast. The structure is built from coursed and stugged cream sandstone, featuring droved sandstone dressings, a raised base course, overhanging eaves, and stop-chamfered angles. The margins and cills are droved, with some projecting, and there is a columnar porch. The addition is dry-dashed.
On the southeast entrance elevation, there is a boarded timber door at the center, framed by a projecting columnar porch with basket-arched openings and coped sandstone side walls. To either side of the door, there are timber-mullioned bipartite windows at ground level.
The southwest side elevation has a large single window centered in a bay that is advanced to the right, while a bipartite window is centered in a bay that is recessed to the left.
On the northwest rear elevation, there is a single window centered in a bay that is advanced at the center, with a blind elevation recessed to the outer right. The flat-roofed addition to the left has single windows.
The northeast side elevation features a bipartite window centered in the original block, with the flat-roofed addition advanced to the right. The front casement windows have decorative leaded glazing, while modern windows are present in the remaining openings. The roof is covered with graded grey slate and has a corniced sandstone central ridge stack with circular cans.
The interior was not seen in 1998.
The gatepiers and gate consist of tooled rubble sandstone, with circular-plan piers flanking the entrance on the southeast. They have platformed conical caps and are accompanied by an iron vehicular entrance gate.
