Description

North Lodge at Peelwalls House dates from around 1830 and has undergone later additions and alterations. It is a single-storey, three-bay gate lodge with a single-storey addition at the rear, creating a near L-plan shape. The building is constructed from coursed and stugged cream sandstone with droved sandstone dressings, featuring quoin strips and margins. The rear addition is harled.

On the south (entrance) elevation, there is a centrally located two-leaf timber panelled door with a plate glass fanlight above, set within a projecting surround that has a bracketed pentice porch. There are single windows in the bays on either side of the entrance.

The west (side) elevation shows the original two-bay block on the right with single windows in both bays. To the left, there is a bipartite window in a flat-roofed addition that is slightly recessed.

The north (rear) elevation features a flat-roofed projection on the right with a lean-to porch that is recessed to the left. There is a single window in the original block, recessed to the outer left.

On the east (side) elevation, the original two-bay block is on the left, again with single windows in both bays. The flat-roofed addition is recessed to the right, with a lean-to porch in the re-entrant angle to the left.

The windows are timber sash and case with 12-pane glazing. The roof is covered with grey slate and has a piended and platformed design. There are stepped and corniced cream sandstone wallhead stacks on the east and west sides, topped with circular cans. The building also features cast-iron rainwater goods. The interior was not seen in 1998.
