Description
The Walled Garden at Peelwalls House dates from around 1830 and has undergone later alterations. It features a near rectangular plan, measuring approximately 2,100 square meters, with bowed corners to the north. The tall, coped walls enclose the site to the east, north, and west, constructed from harl-pointed rubble on the outer elevations and red-brick inner linings, which are partly rendered. The walls are swept at the corners to the southeast and southwest.
A pedestrian gateway is centered in the south wall, consisting of square-plan, coursed ashlar gatepiers topped with dentilled pyramidal caps. It includes a finialled iron gate with a decorative over-arch. Low, coped rubble walls flank the gateway, with full-width, finialled iron railings above. A gabled greenhouse is located in the north wall, although the remainder of the structure is missing. There is a segmental-arched opening with a plain iron gate leading to the northeast corner, and a lean-to potting shed is attached to the outer elevation of the north wall.
