Description

This building, located on Main Street in Leitholm, dates from around 1866 and is a two-storey, three-bay former manse with a single-storey wing at the rear, creating a near T-plan layout. It is constructed from squared and snecked stugged cream sandstone, featuring droved and polished cream sandstone dressings. The eaves are overhanging and supported by timber brackets. The building has droved quoins, droved long and short surrounds to its openings, sandstone mullions, projecting cills, and an ashlar door surround.

On the southeast (entrance) elevation, there is a timber panelled door at the centre of the ground floor, topped by a three-pane fanlight and a corniced door surround. To the outer right, there is a bipartite window at ground level, with a gabled bipartite window above that breaks the eaves. The gabled wing on the outer left features a tripartite window at ground level, with a bipartite window aligned above.

The northeast (side) elevation is a blind elevation to the main house. The single-storey wing is recessed to the right, with a part-glazed timber panelled door in the left bay and single windows in the two bays to the right. There is also a boarded timber door in a single bay addition to the outer right.

On the northwest (rear) elevation, there is a projecting single-storey wing at ground level, with a gabled window above that breaks the eaves. There are single windows at ground level in the outer left and right bays, with gabled windows above them.

The southwest (side) elevation is also a blind elevation to the main house. The single-storey wing is recessed to the left, with single windows in both bays.

The building features three-pane glazing in timber sash and case windows at the front and lying-pane sash and case windows at the rear. The roof is covered with grey slate and has timber bargeboards and cast-iron rainwater goods. There are sandstone apex stacks on the southwest and northeast sides, various circular cans, and a coped brick apex stack on the single-storey rear wing.

The interior was not seen in 1998. The property is enclosed by low coped sandstone walls at the front and a taller coped sandstone wall that divides the front and rear gardens.
