Description

This is a gate lodge dating from around 1820, situated within Casewick Park. It is constructed of coursed squared rubble with ashlar quoins and dressings, and has a roof of shaped slates with raised stone coped gables, kneelers, and two ashlar ridge stacks. The lodge is in a T-plan layout, with a facetted entrance tower set into an angle.

The front of the lodge is two storeys and five bays. The entrance is a pointed arch with Gothick tracery in a moulded stone surround, featuring a hood and human head stops, and is flanked by single lights. To the left of the entrance is a canted bay with a hipped ashlar roof, and to the right a three-light window. The central window on the first floor is a single fixed lancet, flanked by single rectangular slits and two-light windows. All windows are characterised by chamfered surrounds and cavetto moulded mullions.

The central tower has blank shields to the top stage, a gabled parapet, and a shaped ashlar dome with raised ribs, terminating in a low knop with a crocketed lead finial. The flanking side gables incorporate shields and angel corbels supporting octagonal finials with moulded tops.
