Description

Numbers 7-16 Vernon Terrace consist of a row of terraced houses dating from around 1855. They are constructed of stucco, with the roof hidden behind a parapet. Each house is three windows wide and has four stories over a basement. The fronts are characterized by full-height, almost full-width, segmental bays and paired porches. The ground floor is decorated with banded rustication, and features flat-arched porches with pilasters and entablatures. Original panelled doors, with overlights, are found in doorcases at numbers 9 and 13-14. All windows are flat-arched, and first and second floor windows have moulded stucco architraves. First-floor windows at number 7 have blind boxes. Bracketed balconies with bowed cast-iron railings are found on the first floor of each house, while numbers 8 has individual cast-iron balconies to the second and third floors instead. A moulded stucco cornice sits above the second-floor windows, with a subsidiary cornice above the third floor, topped by a blocking course; stacks are located on the party walls. The interior has not been inspected. The balustrade, with vase balusters, flanks the steps leading up to the porches, and extends between square stuccoed and corniced gate piers, with the exception of the section at number 11.
