Description
Numbers 21 to 25 form a terrace of houses built around 1807 to 1828, with later alterations. The houses are constructed of stucco, and the roofs are hidden behind a parapet.
The houses are four storeys high, with a basement, and each has a single-window frontage. The ground floor of number 21 features a large 20th-century window. Numbers 22 to 23 and 25 have a decorative rustication. The entrances to numbers 22 and 23 have segmental arches, recessed flat-arched doorcases, and overlights. The entrance to number 24 is also segmental-arched, although considerably altered, retaining some original decorative glazing to the fanlight. Number 25 has a wooden doorcase with Greek Doric columns, a cornice, a fanlight with decorative glazing, and an original panelled door. All houses have full-height segmental bay windows, except for the ground floor of number 21, which is offset slightly on the upper floors. Tripartite sash windows are present throughout, except for the first and second floors of number 21. Bracketed balconies are present to the first floor, and are likely to have been altered. A canopy is above numbers 22 and 23. The sashes of numbers 22 to 23 and the upper part of number 24 retain their original designs. Cornices are present on numbers 21 to 23, with a blocking course above. Chimney stacks are located on the party walls. Cast-iron railings, with spearhead finials, are present to the steps and area.
Number 21 has a return elevation decorated with banded rustication on the ground floor. Steps lead up to a prostyle porch with Greek Doric columns and pilasters, an entablature, and a blocking course. A round-arched entrance is above the porch, with an overlight. Scattered fenestration is above this. The rear elevations of numbers 21 to 24 retain 6/6 sash windows of the original design, as far as visible. The interior of the buildings has not been inspected.
