Description

Numbers 4 to 7 Bedford Square are a group of terraced houses dating to approximately 1807 to 1828. They are constructed of stucco with slate roofs. The houses are three storeys high with a basement, and feature dormers in a mansard roof. They are arranged as a one-window range, except for Number 6, which has two windows. Steps lead up to the entrances, which are flat-arched with overlights on Numbers 4 and 7, and pointed-arched with a fanlight and decorative glazing on Numbers 5 and 6. All the houses incorporate full-height canted bays, offset slightly to the left on the upper floors, with Number 4's bay being segmental. The windows are sash windows with three panes. Ground-floor windows of Number 4 are flanked by fluted pilasters, featuring 6/6 sashes of original design. A bracketed verandah with cast-iron railings is present on the first floor. Rectangular panels, recessed in stucco, are located between the bays on each house, although these are partially obscured on Number 7. The cornice is interrupted by the bays, except on Number 7, and is topped by a parapet; chimney stacks rise between the party walls. The interior has not been inspected. Cast-iron railings, with spearhead and other finials, are present to the steps and area.
