Description
Numbers 15 and 16 are terraced houses located in Bedford Square, Brighton, built around 1807 to 1828 with later alterations. The houses are constructed of stucco, which has been partially stripped from No. 16. No. 15 has a roof made of asbestos slate, while No. 16 has a tiled roof.
The buildings are three stories high over a basement, featuring dormers in a mansard roof. No. 15 has a one-window range, whereas No. 16 has a two-window range. The ground floor of No. 15 is decorated with banded rustication and has a flat-arched entrance with an overlight, featuring a panelled door of original design. Both houses have full-height segmental bays that are slightly offset on the upper floors; however, the bay on No. 15 is canted on the upper floors.
The ground floor of No. 15 has triple windows flanked by fluted pilasters, and No. 16 has a bracketed balcony with cast-iron railings, along with remnants of recessed stucco panels flanking the upper bay. No. 15 features a cornice, which is missing from No. 16, and both houses have a blocking course and stacks on the party walls. The interior has not been inspected, but there are cast-iron railings leading to the steps and area.
