Description
Number 8 is a terraced house located in Bedford Square, Brighton, dating from around 1807 to 1828, although it was refronted in the mid-19th century. The house is constructed of stucco and has a slate roof. It stands four storeys high over a basement, featuring dormers in the roof and a two-window range that includes a three-light canted bay.
The ground floor is decorated with banded rustication, and there are steps leading up to a flat-arched entrance with an overlight. The full-height canted bay and all windows are flat-arched with architraves. A bracketed balcony on the first floor is adorned with cast-iron railings in an arabesque design. The second floor has bracketed sills with cast-iron window guards, and an ornate modillion cornice above it. The third floor also features bracketed sills and window guards, along with a secondary cornice. The house has a balustraded parapet and chimney stacks on the party walls.
The interior has not been inspected. The steps and area are enclosed by cast-iron railings with ornate spearhead finials.
