Description
Number 40 is a terraced house located on Grand Parade in Brighton, dating from the early 19th century. The building is constructed of stucco with a slate roof and has three storeys over a basement, featuring dormers and a one-window range. The ground floor showcases banded rustication, and there are steps leading up to a round-arched entrance that is flanked by pilasters. The entrance includes a cornice, a fanlight with intersecting glazing bars, and a panelled door of original design, although the upper panel has been replaced with glass.
The house features a three-storey segmental bay with a bracketed balcony on the first floor, which is adorned with cast-iron railings. The glazing has been entirely altered, and there is a storey string between the first and second floors, along with an additional flat-arched window on the second floor. The building has a parapet and dormers in the mansard roof, as well as a side stack.
The interior has not been inspected. The property also includes cast-iron railings at the steps and area, which have spearhead finials.
