Description

Numbers 27-31 and attached walls and gate piers are a terrace of houses dating to around 1845. They are constructed of stucco, with the roofs largely hidden behind a parapet. The houses are three storeys high, with a basement level. Number 27 has a two-window front, while the remaining houses have a one-and-a-half window front, sharing central blank first-floor windows. The entrances have flat arches, with overlights grouped in pairs behind a segmental arch. All windows are flat-arched, with canted bay windows on the basement, ground, and first floors, where the mullions are treated as pilasters with stepped capitals. Each bay is finished with a cornice, featuring dentil details on numbers 30 and 31. Central blank windows have architraves and pediments on numbers 28-29 and 30-31. Second-floor windows also have architraves, except for those on numbers 27 and 29. A shared central blank window with an architrave is present on numbers 28-29 and 30-31. The overall construction includes a cornice and blocking course, although the cornice is missing from number 28. Stacks are positioned on the party walls. Internal features of number 27 include a straight baluster staircase, an arch, a first-floor cornice, and shutters. Number 30 has shutters to the ground-floor front room, a straight baluster staircase, 19th-century fireplace surrounds and iron grates on the first floor, a ground and first-floor cornice, and four-panel doors. The attached garden and terrace walls are constructed of stuccoed piers with pediments, several exhibiting banded rustication.
