Description

Numbers 32, 33, and 34 Clifton Terrace are a group of mid-19th century terraced houses with attached walls and railings. The houses are constructed of stucco, with slate roofs.

The houses have varying heights; number 32 is two storeys over a basement with a dormer window, while numbers 33 and 33A are two and three storeys respectively. Number 34 is three storeys over a basement. Numbers 32 and 33 each have one window plus a shared blank window, number 33A has one window, and number 34 has a two-window range with one blank window, and a recessed entrance bay. The flat-arched entrances to numbers 32 and 33 are set back beneath a segmental arch with overlights. All houses have panelled doors of original design. Number 32 has a two-storey canted bay with a dentil cornice and original sash windows. Numbers 33 and 33A have a three-storey canted bay with a dentil cornice and original sash windows. Number 34 also has a three-storey canted bay with original sash windows, and these sashes are also present in the second-floor window of the entrance bay. A parapet tops the buildings, and there is a stack on the party wall between numbers 33 and 34. The interior was not inspected during the listing process.

A low stuccoed wall runs along the terrace in front of numbers 32 and 33, featuring a moulded coping and rusticated, pedimented piers. Similar walls and piers are present at number 33A, and number 34 has pedimented piers with cast-iron railings. The grouping has group value due to its architectural cohesion and historic significance.
