Description

Numbers 1 to 16 Vincent Terrace consist of a terrace of approximately contemporary houses built around 1840. They are constructed of yellow brick laid in a Flemish bond, with stucco finishes. The roofs are concealed behind a parapet. The houses are three storeys high, featuring two windows per property. A basement and ground floor are stuccoed, with the ground floor scored to resemble ashlar. Steps lead up to round-arched entrances, each framed by a moulded stucco architrave, fluted pilasters, and a cornice, topped by a fanlight. Number 1 has a flat-arched side entrance flanked by pilasters and an overlight with decorative glazing. Numbers 3-4, 8, 10-16 have original panelled doors; numbers 4-5 feature pilasters that bow slightly in plan and have capitals carved with acanthus leaves, complemented by decorative glazing in the fanlights. Numbers 7, 11-12, and 15 also have decorative glazing to their fanlights. The ground floor windows are round-arched. A stucco sill band runs across the first-floor windows. All upper-floor windows have moulded stucco architraves, and the first-floor windows are crowned with cornices and feature balconies—these balconies are bracketed on numbers 1 to 5. The original sash windows retain their design, with radiating glazing bars on the ground floor of numbers 1, 2 (first and second floor), 3, 4-5 (also with intersecting glazing bars on the ground floor), 6 (ground and first floor), 7-9, 10 (ground floor), 11, 12 (ground floor), 13, 14 (first floor), 15-16. A moulded stucco cornice is present on numbers 1-15. The parapet has an upswept profile between numbers 5 and 6. There is a roof extension to number 15, and stacks are located within the party walls. Cast-iron railings are attached to the area.
