Description

Number 1 is a terraced house located on New Steine in Brighton, dating from the early 19th century, with additions made in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The building is constructed of stucco and has a slate roof. It stands four storeys high over a basement and features one window range. The entrance is centrally located, with a flat arched doorway set in a full-height canted bay, which includes an overlight with original glazing bars. The door is from the late 19th or early 20th century and has stained glass in a floral pattern. A balcony on the first floor is supported by cast-iron brackets, and the cast-iron railing features intersecting ogee arches with a band of quatrefoils at both the top and bottom. All windows are flat arched, with the top sashes retaining their original design. There are stacks on the party wall. The interior has not been inspected, and there are railings to the stairs and area.
