Description

Number 37 is a c.1825 terraced house located on Marine Parade in Brighton. The design is attributed to Amon Wilds and Charles Augustin Busby. The house is stucco-faced with a roof hidden behind a parapet. It is four storeys high with an attic over a basement, originally featuring a three-window front, with a seven-window return to the right. The main elevation incorporates a large, full-height segmental bay with chamfered rustication to the ground floor and basement. Giant Tuscan pilasters rise from the first to the third floors, with entablatures above the pilastrade and the attic storey. Cast-iron brackets support a balcony on the first floor. The entry on the return side has been altered. The entablature from the main elevation continues around to the fourth bay of the return, stepping down to the rear, where a canted bay with triple windows extends through the third floor. All windows are flat-arched. A chimney stack is located along the party wall. The interior of the property has not been inspected. The basement area is protected by railings.
