Description

This is an early 19th-century terraced house located on the south side of St James's Street in Brighton. It has a mid-to-late 19th-century shop front incorporated into the ground floor elevation. The house is stucco-faced, with the roof hidden behind a parapet. It rises four storeys over a basement, with a single window range to the main façade and a three-window range to the side return.

The return elevation features a round-arched entrance with fanlights and sidelights, which is rusticated. Remnants of a mid-to-late 19th-century shop front are visible: a cast-iron entablature supported on console brackets. A segmental bay window rises from the shop front cornice through the second floor on the main elevation, with a similar bay rising from the basement through the second floor on the return. The windows in the second-floor bay of the main elevation are tripartite sashes and date from the early to mid 19th century, with 4x4 panes to the centre and 2x2 panes to the sides, each with marginlights. All windows are flat-arched and have architraves, with the exception of those within the bay windows. A balcony with a cast-iron railing is present on the first floor of the main elevation. A storey band runs between the first and second floors, and the cornice continues onto the return elevation.

The interior has not been inspected. The property retains original attached railings.
