Description

No. 90 St James's Street is a corner house built in the late 18th century. An early to mid-19th century shop front was added, with the only remnant of the original front being a plain entablature with a projecting cornice. The building is finished in stucco and features a hipped roof covered with tiles.

It stands three storeys high with dormers and a basement. The main elevation and the return both have a two-window range. All openings on the main elevation are flat arched, while those on the return are camber arched, with one opening blocked. There is a corner entry into the shop, along with one entry with an overlight on the return; another entry was under construction at the time of the survey in autumn 1991, adjacent to the party wall with No. 89.

The shop features a segmental bay with a tripartite window above, with sashes of original design: 6 x 6 for the centre and 2 x 2 for the sides. At the rear of the return, there is a two-storey bay that is segmental on the ground floor, with sashes of original design, and canted on the first floor. To the left, there is a canted bay on the first floor only. The building has two flat-arched dormers and a single dormer on the return, with a central stack.

No. 90 is part of a group with three other buildings in the block: Nos. 87-87A, 88, and 89.
