Description
Numbers 21 and 22 are terraced houses, now used as flats and commercial premises, dating from the early to mid 19th century. They are constructed of stucco, with a parapeted roof for No.21 and a hipped slate roof for No.22.
The exterior features three storeys over a basement. No.21 has a two-window range, while No.22 has a one-window range. The shop front of No.21, dating from the late 19th or early 20th century, has been much rebuilt, and there is a through passage to the left party wall. The shop front of No.22 retains remnants of a late 19th-century design. Above the through passage of No.21 is a blank, full-height wall. The main elevation slightly projects in front of this short wall and is defined by corner quoins.
The first-floor windows have projecting sills and architraves, each topped with a floating cornice supported by a pair of console brackets. The sills of the second-floor windows align with the top fascia of the cornice on the first floor, and these windows also feature architraves. All windows are flat arched. An entablature is present over the main section only. Each party wall of No.22 is adorned with a giant fluted pilaster extending to the first and second floors, with acanthus capitals that support a projecting cornice. There is a canted bay window from the late 19th century on the first floor, while the second floor has a projecting sill and a floating cornice supported by console brackets. The top is finished with a parapet.
The first-floor windows of No.21 feature original design sashes with an 8 x 8 configuration, while the second floor has 8-pane French doors and an 8-pane transom with margin glazing. The second-floor window of No.22 has 3 x 3 sashes with margin lights on the sides and above the top sash. The interior has not been inspected.
