Description
Nos. 18 and 20 Upper Montagu Street are terraced houses built around 1810-1820 as part of J.T. Parkinson's Montagu Square Portman Estate development. They are constructed of stock brick, with No. 18 featuring a channelled stucco ground floor and concealed slate roofs. The buildings rise four storeys and include a basement, with each front being two windows wide. There are adjacent semicircular arched doorways on the left and right of each front, featuring panelled doors set in reeded jambs and fanlights, with No. 18 having a patterned fanlight. The windows are recessed sashes with intact glazing bars, set under flat gauged arches. A stucco plat band runs along the first floor, topped by a crowning stucco cornice and blocking course. The first-floor windows are adorned with cast iron balconettes featuring palmette patterns. Additionally, there are cast iron area railings with urn finials.
