Description

A pair of terraced houses with shops, dating from circa 1820 and built as part of the Gloucester Place and Montagu Square developments. Number 114 has a stucco facade, while number 115 is faced with plum brick, and they are united by a stucco cornice; both have concealed slate roofs. The fronts are narrow, each two windows wide. The shop fronts were refaced in the mid-19th century. Number 114 has been altered, while number 115 retains its original fascia, flanked by enriched consoles. The upper floors have recessed sash windows with glazing bars. The first and second floor windows of number 114 feature cornices and pateraed friezes, flanked by small consoles, while the windows of number 115 have flat, gauged red brick arches. A stucco entablature tops both fronts, featuring a frieze with paterae, a moulded cornice, and a blocking course. Number 114 retains an original cast iron balcony on the first floor. The buildings are included on the list for their group value.
