Description
Nos. 4 and 5 Montagu Place are terraced houses built around 1810-1811 as part of J.T. Parkinson's Montagu Square development for the Portman Estate. They are constructed of brown brick with stucco banded rustication on the ground floors and have concealed slate roofs. The buildings rise four storeys and include basements, with three-window wide fronts.
The doorways, located to the right, are semicircular arched and feature inset Greek Doric columned jambs, panelled doors, and patterned fanlights. The windows are recessed sashes set beneath flat gauged arches. A plat band finishes the ground floor stuccowork, and there is a crowning stucco cornice and blocking course. The first floor has original cast iron balconies with geometric patterns, and there are cast iron area railings topped with urn finials. Nos. 4 and 5 are adjacent to No. 30 Montagu Square.
