Description

No. 13, Upper Montagu Street is a terraced house built around 1810-1820 as part of J.T. Parkinson’s development of Montagu Square on the Portman Estate. It is similar in design and construction to numbers 7 to 11 on the same side of the street. The house is of four storeys and two windows wide, constructed of stock brick with a stucco ground floor. The roof is hidden behind slate. The upper floors feature recessed sash windows with flat, gauged brick arches. A plat band runs along the first floor, and the house is topped with a stucco cornice and blocking course. Modern garage doors have been inserted into the ground floor. A cast iron balcony with a curved loop pattern is situated on the first floor. The building is included in the register for its group value with the surrounding properties.
