Description

This is a terraced town house located at 13 Montagu Place, built around 1810-11 as part of the Bryanston Square and Montagu Square development for the Portman Estate. The house is constructed of stock brick with a channelled stucco ground floor, and has a concealed slate roof. It is five storeys high with a basement, and three windows wide.

The right-hand side features a semicircular arched doorway with inset Greek Doric columns supporting an entablature above the doorhead. A delicately patterned fanlight is above the doorway, although the door itself has been altered. The windows are recessed sash windows, with the exception of marginal glazed French casements on the first floor, all set within flat, gauged red brick arches. A plat band marks the end of the stucco work on the ground floor, while a sill band is present at the fourth floor. The building is finished with a crowning cornice and blocking course. Simple, bowed wrought iron balconettes are located on the first floor. Cast iron area railings with urn finials complete the exterior.
