Description
No. 36 is a terraced town house built around 1810-1811, with slight alterations from the mid-19th century. It was designed by J.T. Parkinson as part of the Montagu-Bryanston Square development for the Portman Estate. The house is constructed of stock brick with a channelled stucco ground floor and has a concealed slate roof. It stands five storeys tall, plus a basement, and is three windows wide.
The entrance features a semicircular arched doorway on the left, which includes a panelled door, fluted jambs, and a fanlight. The ground floor has a two-window segmental bow, and above it is a mid-19th century stucco canted bay with a cornice and blocking course. The upper floors have recessed sash windows under flat gauged arches. A plat band finishes the ground floor stucco work, while a crowning stucco cornice and blocking course complete the top of the building. There is a continuous cast iron balcony with a geometric pattern on the first floor, and cast iron area railings with urn finials.
