Description
This is a terraced town house located at 41 Montagu Square, London, built around 1810-11. It was designed by J.T. Parkinson as part of the Montagu-Bryanston Square development for the Portman Estate. The building is constructed of stock brick with a channelled stucco finish to the ground floor, and has a concealed slate roof. It rises five storeys plus a basement, and is three windows wide. A semicircular arched doorway is on the left-hand side, housing a panelled door within moulded jambs, and featuring a fanlight above. The upper floors contain recessed sash windows, mostly with glazing bars, set within flat, gauged arches. A plat band defines the top of the stuccoed ground floor. A crowning stucco cornice and blocking course embellish the roofline. A continuous, cast iron balcony with a geometric patterned design runs along the first floor. The front is protected by cast iron area railings with urn finials.
