Description

This is a terraced town house located at 46 Montagu Square, built around 1810-11 as part of a larger development by J.T. Parkinson for the Portman Estate. The building is of brick construction, with the ground floor finished in channelled stucco. It has a concealed slate roof and extends over four storeys plus a basement. It is three windows wide. A semicircular arched doorway is on the left side, containing a panelled door framed by Greek Doric columns and featuring a fanlight above. The upper floors have recessed sash windows with glazing bars, each set within a flat, gauged brick arch. A plat band defines the top of the stuccoed ground floor. The building is topped by a crowning cornice and blocking course. A continuous cast iron balcony with a geometric patterned design runs along the first floor. Cast iron area railings with acorn finials are also present.
