Description

No. 6 Montagu Square is a terraced town house dating from approximately 1810-11, designed by J.T. Parkinson as part of his Montagu-Bryanston Square development for the Portman Estate. The house is constructed of stock brick with a channelled stucco ground floor, and has a concealed slate roof. It is four storeys high, with a basement, and has a facade three windows wide. A semicircular arched doorway is located on the left-hand side, containing a panelled door, pilaster jambs, and a fanlight. Recessed sash windows are set beneath flat, gauged arches. A plat band defines the top of the stuccoed ground floor. A crowning stucco cornice and blocking course tops the building. The first floor features a continuous cast iron balcony with a lattice pattern. Cast iron area railings are present, finished with acorn finials. This property demonstrates group value as part of a cohesive terrace.
