Description

No. 19 Montagu Square is a terraced town house dating from approximately 1810-11, designed by J.T. Parkinson as part of his development for the Portman Estate. The house is constructed of stock brick with a channelled stucco ground floor, and stands five storeys high with a basement. It has a width of three windows. A semicircular arched doorway is located on the left, featuring inset Greek Doric columns and a fanlight. The windows are recessed sash windows, some with glazing bars, set within flat, gauged arches. A plat band defines the top of the ground floor stuccowork. The building is finished with a crowning stucco cornice and blocking course. A continuous cast iron balcony with a lattice pattern is present on the first floor, and cast iron area railings are topped with acorn finials. The house has group value as part of the Montagu-Bryanston Square development.
