Description

This is a terraced town house located on Montagu Square, built around 1810-11, by J.T. Parkinson as part of a larger development for the Portman Estate. The house is constructed of stock brick with a channelled stucco ground floor, and has a concealed slate roof. It stands five storeys high, including a basement, and is three windows wide.

To the left of the facade is a semicircular arched doorway with a panelled door. This doorway is flanked by inset Greek Doric columns supporting an entablature over the doorhead and fanlight. The upper floors contain recessed sash windows, some with glazing bars, each set within a flat, gauged arch. A plat band defines the top of the stuccoed ground floor. The building is finished with a crowning stucco cornice and blocking course. A continuous, cast iron, lattice patterned balcony runs along the first floor. The front garden is enclosed by cast iron area railings with acorn finials.
