Description
Nos. 39 and 41 York Street are uniform terraced houses built around 1810-1820 as part of the Portman Estate development, similar in style to Nos. 43 and 45. The houses are constructed of stock brick with a channelled stucco ground floor and have concealed slate roofs. They feature semicircular arched doorways on the right, with panelled doors that have reeded jambs and heads, along with patterned fanlights. The upper floors have recessed glazing bar sash windows set under flat gauged arches. The stuccowork is finished with a plat band at the first floor level, and there is a parapet with coping above. Continuous cast iron balconies with Gothick patterns adorn the first floor, and the area is enclosed by cast iron railings topped with urn finials.
