Description

This is a terraced house with a shop, built around 1810 to 1820 as part of John Nash's Portman Estate development of Montagu Square. It is similar in design and construction to numbers 42 to 50 on the same side of the street. The house is of stock brick with a concealed slate roof and stands four storeys high. It has two windows wide. A shop front was added in the mid-20th century to the ground floor. The upper floors have recessed sash windows with glazing bars, set under flat, gauged arches. A stone plat band runs along the first floor, and the roofline features a parapet with stone coping. The building is included on the heritage list solely for its contribution to the group value of the streetscape.
